Expert Answers about Chevrolet Trailer Hitch Ball

  • How To Remove A Curt Pop-In Ball C60601 With A Broken Release Lever
  • Hey Grace I am happy to try to help you get the broken Curt Pop-In Ball # C60601 out of your truck. This is a known issue with these gooseneck balls with the built in release lever on top. You will have to get up underneath the truck in order to release the ball manually. There is a plastic plug on the bottom of the hitch ball (see pic below). Remove the plug and you can use a pair of needle nose pliers to manually turn the paddle which will allow the ball to retract. Hitting it with some...

  • B&W Companion Will Not Allow Pull Pin On Turnover Ball Hitch To Release
  • First, I just want to ensure you have loosened the draw down bolt on the square shank for the Companion # BWRVK3500 which goes into your B&W Turnover ball receiver. Next it is important to look under your truck bed to see if the pin which holds the hitch/ball in place went all the way through the hitch. I have seen where the pin did not fully retract into the receiver and when tightened it bent the pin causing an issue. If all these were done properly you can try loosening the draw down...

  • Troubleshooting the Gen-Y Hitch Gooseneck Trailer Hitch for GM OEM Puck Systems
  • Welcome back! If you're not seeing any visual defects in the gooseneck ball portion of the Gen-Y Gooseneck Hitch item # GY55XR then it just needs to be broken in. It'll loosen up once this happens and you won't have to worry about it getting stuck. It does require lubrication though so I would throw some white lithium grease like item # L11354 into the gooseneck hole. Additionally, if there is excess paint in your Silverado's gooseneck hole you'll want to clean all of that off. The tolerances...

  • Troubleshooting Trailer Brakes Only Work With Trailer Coupler Disconnected
  • More than likely you have an actual short or something is loose. There should be no correlation between the trailer being hooked up to the ball mount of your truck and the trailer brakes. The only thing that really makes any sense is that there is a difference in angles between the two and it is enough for wiring to be in a different position triggering the error when lowered on the ball. Double check your trailer connectors and make sure they aren't damaged and the wiring is secure....

  • What Might Cause a Tandem Axle Trailer Front Axle Tires Insides to Wear Out Quicker
  • My guess would be that your trailer is sitting a little nose down which is putting excessive wear on the front axle instead of the rear. If you look at the trailer when hooked up does the suspension equalizer sit level or is it angled? If it's not level this would show it's not sitting level. I attached a help article on picking out ball mounts as well.

  • Recommended Trailer Hitch for a 2023 Toyota RAV4
  • Yes, for your 2023 Toyota RAV4 we do have a couple of hitch options. I recommend taking a look at the etrailer Trailer Hitch Receiver # e23ZR. This hitch has a max weight capacity of 4,000 lbs, a max tongue weight capacity of 600 lbs, and is made in the USA.

  • Will EcoHitch for 2024 Toyota Sienna Work Well with Kuat NV BIke Rack
  • Hey Gary we don't have any pictures of the EcoHitch part # EH22SR installed on a 2024 Toyota Sienna but it would be the best option if you were worried about ground clearance and appearance as only the hitch opening hangs below the rear bumper. While your vehicle does have low ground clearance it would work great with the Kuat NV 2.0 part # NV22G.

  • Where Does The Trailer Wire Harness Connector Sit After Installation On A 2021 Volvo XC90
  • Hi Ryan, The Curt T-Connector Vehicle Wiring Harness with 4-Pole Flat Trailer Connector # C56285 is designed to stay in the trunk of your XC90 when not in use. When in use you'll just pull it out and close the rear hatch. There's a gasket that lines the rear hatch that will flex to allow for the wiring to pass through and not get smashed when you close the hatch. If you want to run it down to the hitch instead then you'll likely need to run the connector to a tail light corner and then...

  • Will 5th Wheel Hit 2024 GMC Sierra 2500 Tailgate With B&W Companion Slid Rearward
  • Hey Ben! The B&W Companion Slider # BWRVK3775 will not make contact with your 2024 GMC Sierra 2500 tailgate when you slide the hitch rearward, so you'll be good to go! I will also add that if your 5th wheel trailer has a tapered nose you can actually use the Stationary B&W Companion # BWRVK3715 you were looking at, even with the 6-1/2' bed. We've received a bit of feedback from our towing community that the distance between the puck system and cab on GM pickups is far enough away that...

  • Is There 7-Way Tester For Volvo With Factory Trailer Wiring
  • Hi Al, There is not a standalone 7-way tester that works with your Volvo with the factory trailer wiring. This is a pretty common problem with these vehicles so what you would need to do is use a standard 7-way tester like # C66NR but also add the 7-Way Trailer Adapter for Towing Trailers with LED Lights # C57003.

  • Recommended 7-Way to 4-Way Adapter
  • I would be happy to Phil! The Pollak 7 Pole to 4 Way Connector Adapter item # PK12716 is exactly what you need. You won't have any issues with the adapter causing shorts with your Volvo's electrical system. This adapter just takes the lighting signals from your 7-way and transfers them to your boats 4-way.

  • Can 2021 Ford F-350 Short Bed Use Curt Crosswing
  • Yes, you can use the Curt CrossWing Lightweight Gooseneck-to-5th-Wheel Trailer Hitch Adapter # C32DR with your 2021 F-350. However, it is possible you will not be able to make a full 90 degree turn since you have the short bed, so that is something you need to be aware of. If you have a 5th wheel with a tapered nose it is unlikely clearance will be a problem.

  • Troubleshooting No Brake Lights With European Trailer Connector Adapter on 2002 Volvo V70 XC
  • We haven't run into this in the past with customers who have used the # 118710 so I would start by checking the vehicle side connector. The brake and turn signals are separate on your European style 7-way so you will need to determine which pin is the brake signal and check for power using a tester like the # PTW2993. It may be that there is some corrosion on the connector as well, especially since it is a 2002, so it would be a good idea to check it and clean as necessary. If you don't...

  • Troubleshooting a Curt Spectrum That Does not Go Through Calibration Sequence
  • There could be a couple of reasons why your Curt Spectrum # C51170 is not calibrating, but it's likely due to your wiring. Even though you're using a plug in adapter # C51523, there still can be an issue with your vehicle wiring. I recommend physically checking your grounds, to make sure that it's to a clean secure surface. If your grounds are good, then check the white and black wires on the main module and make sure they're not flipped; If they are flip them and check again. I also...

  • Will A Gen-Y 5th Wheel Pin Box Work On A Ram 2500 Short Bed With Ram Boxes
  • Hi Mike, Unfortunately the Gen-Y Hitch Shock Absorbing 5th Wheel Pin Box # GY46FR would likely make contact with the Ram Boxes whenever you try to make a turn. With Ram Boxes your options for towing a 5th wheel are pretty much limited to rotating pin boxes, especially with a short bed. With this pin box you'd end up with the pivot point sitting 22" closer to the truck so the pin box could hit the side of the bed and the nose of the trailer could hit the cab of the truck. Is there a specific...
